AGBEH group members, as well as many people involved with dogs, will commonly recommend three of Jean Donaldson's books:
"Culture Clash," "Dogs Are From Neptune," and "Mine!"
These books are well-known amongst trainers and dog owners. (I've read the first two and they've really taught me a lot about how dogs communicate and how we communicate with dogs! Highly recommended!)
Dr. Nicholas Dodman, "The Dog Who Loved Too Much," and "Dogs Behaving Badly."
Pat Miller, "The Power of Positive Dog Training."
My personal review: Terrific book! Easy for anybody to read. Everybody will learn something from this book. Great for adopters, foster homes, and experienced dog owners alike! I wish we could send this book with each new adopted Springer!
Along with the other authors listed here, Dr. Patricia McConnell is one of the backbones of dog training in this era. She has numerous books and booklet. Check out the descriptions and see if any might be helpful to you and your Springer!
M. Shirley Chong, "A Clicker Cookbook: A Step-by-Step Guide to Beginning Manners." (Link goes to her website, not a review.) Some free cool lessons to be found there, especially the one on Recall.
Turid Rugaas: On Talking Terms With Dogs : Calming Signals Really neat short booklet! Amazing communication signals with dogs that this woman shares! Dog people everywhere will swear that it works--so do I! Click here for website about Turid Rugaas and her Calming Signals.
