Laurie
2006-044GA
Status: On Hold
Location: Atlanta, GA

UPDATE 5/29/06:
Despite being given a few weeks to live in Jan, she continues to persevere and remains as sweet as ever.

"Laurie is a 7 year old liver and white female who was abused and neglected he r entire life. She was finally delivered to a shelter for disposal when her Mother died chained to a tree. The abuse and neglect has robbed her of her health. She no longer produces tears and, as a result, has dry eye and a secondary eye infection. Her ears are also infected. These minor problems are being treated to make her comfortable. She has cancer which has spread to much of her body and advanced heartworm which is limiting her lung function. These problems are irreversable and will only be healed when Laurie crosses the bridge to eternity. She waits in grace and dignity and uses the time remaining to enjoy some of the pleasures she was deprived of for seven years....taking walks; sniffing the many smells to be found in the yard; and just spending time with those who love her. Thanks to ESRA, Laurie is able to enjoy the quality of life she richly deserves at her time of greatest need." |

Meadow 2006-487NC
Status: Coming Soon
Location: NC

Meadow, L/W, not spayed yet, estimated 3-4 years old, 35 lbs
Meadow is a petite, sweetie pie of a Springer. Although she is estimated to be between 3 and 4 years old you would swear she is a puppy, she is itty bitty. It appears that she did not have much of a puppyhood so she approaches all new experiences like a wide-eyed puppy. She'll carefully scrutinize new things until she is sure it's safe to move a little closer. She did not know how to use the stairs, it took her several attempts to master them. She happily goes into her crate where she spends a lot of time while she is recovering from Heartworm treatment. She understands the right place (outside) to do her business and when she gets praised she will weave in and out of your legs doing her happy dance. If she has a leash on you are sure to get tangled up with her. Meadow will need to be spayed by her new family since she will have to wait a few months to let her body recover from Heartworm treatment. Meadow should be available for adoption around the end of September, that is assuming we don't fail fostering... She is too precious!

Mike 2006-656GA --pending adoption
Kelly 2006-657GA
Status: Coming Soon
Location: Alpharetta, GA

(Mike)

(Kelly) |
I pulled Mike and Kelly from a humane society that rescued them from a kill shelter. They are about 1 year old and are probably litter mates. They were covered in ticks when found and tested positive for erlichia. Mike was a strong positive and Kelly a weak positive so they will both be starting on an antibiotic. They do not show any symptoms. Both are HW- and will be spayed/neutered. It appears that Kelly has bilateral entropian eye for which she will have surgery to correct. They both stayed here last night and did fine in their crates and slept through the night. They will bark when they other dogs pass their crates. They met Tilly (a little mix stray I found the other day) and Jamaica and were fine with both of them. Kelly will guard her food from other dogs, but she doesn't act, just a lot of talk. Both of them were fine with me picking up their bowls and taking them away while they were eating. Both are little love bugs. If you sit on the floor, they will be leaning up against you in no time. Kelly will try to climb in your lap too. Both are all puppy and have puppy mannerisms. Both of them went potty as soon as they were outside. Mike squats so he's not even mature enough to lift his leg :) Mike is 47 pounds and Kelly is 37 pounds. They will likely fill out more as they continue to gain weight. Both have docked tails. They will be fostered and adopted out separately. Please let me know if you are available to foster either of these sweet babies. They are a little dirty in their pictures because Mike thought it was a fantastic idea to play in the baby pool this morning before we left for the vet! |

Brownie
Status: NOW AVAILABLE!
Location: Raleigh

Hi! My name is Brownie and I am a 9 month old mix. Let me tell you my story.
I lived on an Army base in Georgia for the first six months of my life, but 'cause my mommy and daddy were getting a divorce I had to go live at a shelter. The shelter thought I was so cute, and so smart, and so good - (have I mentioned my happy disposition and good looks yet?) they let me live there a really, really, long time waiting for the perfect family for me.
I thought my chance had come in July when an older couple came to take me to their house. After about a week, I knew that they couldn't keep up with me so I asked to go back to the shelter and have the nice people there find me the perfect family. I waited and waited and waited and my time was almost out (I don't know what that means but I had a feeling it wasn't good) when the really nice people from Springer Rescue came to take me to Raleigh where I am living with my foster mommy and foster brothers.
Foster mommy has a great yard to run around in and lots of toys to play with and takes me to a park so we can all run around off leash and play every day. I have lots of energy so it's important that the perfect family for me is active.
Foster mommy says I am inquisitive and don't really have manners yet. She is home schooling me so I now know it isn't polite to go potty in the house, and to sit before I get my food and she is trying to teach me that counter surfing is a really bad habit. She says that nothing good happens above 3 feet. (I'm not so sure I believe her though). But I showed her how good I am when we went walking on a leash. She said I was a perfect gentleman.
My foster brothers don't like the neighborhood cats and I don't really know why. I had to live with lots of guys at the shelter and nobody seemed too bad to me, not even the cats. So if you have other pets in your home, that's fine by me!
I have my own apartment (crate) here and after two days, I already knew when foster mommy tells us to get in our apartments, she means it and we all go to bed. I'm really good at sleeping through the night and I don't bark much at all.
A note from "foster mommy": Brownie is a very happy 9 month old puppy. He is full of energy and enthusiasim for each new day. Brownie will require a lot of mental and physical exercise as he is smart too. If you've ever had a Springer before, you know that a smart and active dog who is not exercised both mentally and physically will take the situation into his own hands! I am trying to break Brownie of begging for people food and it's going well. We are also working on basic obedience; sit, sit stay, down. He loves children and other pets, loves to cuddle and LOVES to play with toys. If he can stuff two toys in his mouth at once he's happy! Despite this little guys first months, he has to be the happiest dog I've ever come across. He would make the perfect addition to the right family. |

Zen
status: Coming Soon
Location: GA
|
Zen was relinquished to ESRA when his owners no longer had room for him when they moved to the air force base. Zen was born July 4, 2004 making him just over two years old. Zen's family had 3 and 7 year old children and the owners reported that he played well with the children. He spent his days outside and his nights in the laundry room so he is moving to foster care where he will be part of the family full-time. He's looking for a permanent home that will gaurantee him that as well. Zen is a sweet boy and our volunteer who met him said he is a typical, sweet, two year old, field-bred springer, who loves people and is good with other dogs too. It is unknown how he is with cats. Will you offer this "military brat" to have some permanent love?

I'm Jamaica, my foster mom calls me Jammers though. She says it's m ore fitting now that my dreadlocks have been shaved off. She got me from the Henry County Animal Control after a nice volunteer there emailed her and said I needed help. They thought I was really depressed in my cell. They were right! See, I used to have a family and they moved out of the house and left me behind to guard it. HA! I'm no guard dog. I LOVE people. especially those that give me yummy treats and cuddles. I also love food, to go for nice walks on my leash and definitely love running around the house and checking things out. I've learned how to go up and down stairs too. See, you can teach an older dog new tricks! From Jamaica's foster mom: Jamaica was in sorry shape when we picked him up. He had a ear infections, eye infections, and a skin infection. He had a pendulous mass hanging from his abdomen which burst within a few days of his rescue. The vets had checked it out and a cyst of this nature doesn't like to be messed with. So, now it's been removed and the histology reported said it's not cancerous! Jamaica tested positive for HW and it's apparent from his x-rays he's had them awhile. However, he doesn't have a cough or any visible symptoms so we are confident he will do well with treatment. Since he just had surgery to remove the mass that burst, we also took the opportunity to have the cysts on his eyes burnt down. They were rubbing his eyes and causing infection. It is likely that the fleas, which had over run his body, caused these sores in addition to the skin infection so we are hopeful that with the antibiotics and the procedure that his eyes will get back to normal soon. The sad news is, we don't think Jammers can hear and he has limited vision. He definitely can see certain things and can fins his foster mom out in the yard, but it is limited vision. Jammers is a really sweet boy. He loves his foster mom and if she gets away from him in the house or yard, he will run around till he finds her. He does well in his crate and hasn't had any accidents in the house.
We think Jammers is between 8-10 years old. His teeth would indicate 10, but his attitude and spunk say a little younger and teeth can be deceiving in severe neglect cases. Any way you look at it, Jammers is a happy boy. He is a joy to foster and his adaptibility is incredibly uplifting. Jamaica does like to steal food so a home with no children is probably best. He will counter surf too. Like we said, he can't hear, has limited vision, but his sniffer works great!! He can sniff out food from rooms away! That's spunk! |

Miss Bubbles..... is a sweetie pie and is warming up to people attent ion and the comforts of a "home". She is very submissive and timid, both to people and the dogs. So, we're working on her self-confidence, socialization, and basic interaction. She loves her special space (crate) and the safety and shelter it provides. When she's a bit unsure or worried, she retreats here, to her little "haven" in the kitchen. She's a petitie little girl-thing with incredibly curious eyes and a hesitant tail wag which stops left and right for just seconds (very funny and cute). Much of the household "stuff" is new and scary to her, especially the television!...backsteps and play-bow and barks! But, she is loving and affectionate to a kind hand. She cuddle and sit in your lap. She is in n eed of medical care, including heartworm treatment, for a "light-positive" test result and spaying (after 3 litters of pups). So, she won't be available for adoption until she is medically a healthy girl. But, keep her in mind if you're interested in adopting. We're taking very good care of her and when she's ready, she's going to make some adopter a very happy pet parent! She'll write an update all about herself when she's feeling a bit better. |

Noah
Status: Coming Soon
Location: NC

UPDATE 10/25/06
Noah our Special needs boy came through his surgery very well and has started his rehabilitation. During his surgery an old break was discovered. That break had healed naturally. He is enjoying being an ESRA Springer. He is eating well, resting and learning what it is like to be loved and cared for. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts. |
Noah was found as a stray in South Carolina by a Good Samaritan who saw him wandering and limping. She was on vacation and knew she could not take him home. He was taken to a local veterinarian's office for safe keeping. It is mandatory that he be held for 7 days while attempts are made to locate his owner. Every effort was made to no avail. ESRA was contacted on Noah's behalf. While in his holding period X-Rays established a severe break in his right rear leg. The break is in the lower femur above the knee. The good news is with orthopedic surgery to pin the bone he has an excellent prognosis of a full recovery. Noah is a young boy between 18 and 24 months. Youth is on his side and there is no greater risk of arthritis than any other dog because the break is above the joint.
Noah is a sweet boy. He is a trooper and is dealing with this adverse situation very well. When he met an ESRA volunteer for the first time he greeted her with Springer kisses and a smile. Noah's surgery will be costly and his recovery will include many vet visits and physical therapy. Noah is a Special Needs Springer and he would appreciate your help. After his surgery and his recuperation complete Noah will be looking for a very special family who will love him and keep him safe out of harms way. Thanks to ESRA, this young sweet boy is being given that chance.
Please help us cover the costs of Noah's very necessary surgery and put the pep back in his step! http://www.springerrescue.org/sponsor/specialneeds/noah.html |

This is one active little boy!!Fort unately he also appears to be very intelligent and is learning quickly. He is like a child who has no idea and had never been taught what his bounderies are.He will do well in a structured environment. He wants and needs to know limitations. He is good with my other dogs and is extremely playful which has annoyed them a bit.He does listen to them and makes a wide berth around my male dog who has told him off quite forecefully. He wants to chase the cats but means no harm.T he ones that just sit there he loses interest in quickly. He has crated nicely and sleeps in his crate quietly(thank goodness because he is a handful at all other times!!LOL)He is scheduled for neuter and heartworm testing tomorrow. This boy would make a fantatstic agility or tracking dog!!! He is already understanding the sit and stay commands. He does want to please so should prove to be a quick learner.(I hope....LOL )
