OWEN/BOWIE

Karen and I thought you might like a little update on Owen/Bowie.  He is just great.  Probably the best dog we have had (or will be when a few little training things are more solid).  At core just the sweetest - and probably goofiest - guy around.  The families who gave him up just don't know what they lost.  The drinking thing is hilarious.  He just shoves his entire head into the bowl.  he also takes HUGE drinks.  we kind of have to ration it out a bit of a cup at a time to keep him house trained and keep the floods down.  Make sure he gets plenty but a bit at a time.  Had him at the beach and same thing - - didn't really swim, but jams his head into the water. He LOVES meeting every person and every dog, but is very easy about it and it only needs to be quick.

JAZZ

Jazz is doing absolutely wonderful!  You must come by and meet him some time when things settle down for you-he is a "mushpot". What a love - we feel extremely blessed.  He slept in his crate at the foot of our bed (on the floor) for the first two nights, having the run of the house the rest of the time, then slept there with the door open the last few nights, and tonight we're putting his quilt on one of his two large pillows at the foot of the bed on the floor, and the crate is history!!  We've left him alone in the house at 3 and 4 hour intervals(no crate) and he didn't chew or act out in any way..He was alittle timid of the snow/ice last night and this morning but did fine and is out for his evening walk with his dad as we speak!  We've heard about 5 barks out of him so far, and he  is loved by all who meet him .He knew sit, and now knows  lay down(when a treat is waiting). We're keeping his ears clean, and his loves  being brushed!!We got him a nylabone and he spent much time chewing on it yesterday,  but didn't pay much attention to it today - perhaps his gums were alittle sore after so much chewing yesterday!

He just walked up with his nylabone hanging out the side of his mouth and said to say hi and send a big sloppy kiss.

HAROLD

Just wanted to thank you for Harold. He and Alex have been playing non stop since Friday. Harold has been wonderful. He had one accident on Friday. He is still talking a lot. We are still learning.  Alex gives him a chewee and then takes it back. Alex sits on his back and hugs him.  He is an amazing dog.

CALLIE

Sending a couple of pictures of Princess Callie.  Now 11 months old and still a delight to us (always will be).  She continues to be "skittish" around new people but approachs strangers slowly, much better than her previous behavior of running and hiding in a corner!   Callie is the most mischievous puppy we have ever owned and we consider it "cute".   She is also a "lover" and doesn't wander far from "her people".  She is always by our side and has made every chair and couch in the home her own, to the chagrin of the two older "boys".  Callie is the alpha, or at least she likes to think she is.  We did have a rescue spend the night here on Saturday (Molly) and Callie was fine.  At her last vet visit about 5 weeks ago, Callie was a respectable 47 pounds.  We expect she will be 50 lbs at one year and still maintain her "girlie figure".  Callie is way too active to gain extra weight!  She certainly loves to run the yard and chase lizards, squirrels, birds and in the evening, the rabbits and armadillos.  To date she has never caught anything, thank goodness! We adore our "little girl" and are thrilled to have her as part of our family.  Will keep you updated periodically and don't forget to visit if you are ever in Florida.

All regards, Sheila and George Krautner (not forgetting, Callie, Bentley and Zachary)

KENNEDY

I received my Happy Anniversary letter today and wanted to thank ESRA for remembering mine and Kennedy's special day!

Kennedy is a puppy from a rescued springer spaniel named Lucy. Kennedy's original name was Sasha, but we like to call her Kennedy. Eileen Parker and her family raised Lucy's pups until we were lucky enough to bring one home. I like to think that Kennedy is a lucky dog. She never had to feel the pain of neglect, hunger or lonliness as a stray, or the fear of a battered dog. She very well could have and I am thrilled that a program like ESRA exists, for obvious reasons, I have a dog that I adore more than anything.

Kennedy is about 1 year and two months old and RUNS our household. We don't mind letting her of course :) I am attaching a few pictures of Kennedy to this email which I hope you're able to open. She's a very comfortable, happy and extremely loving dog. I wouldn't trade her for the world!!! Thank You, Andrea Landreth and Kennedy (aka, Sasha) My boyfriend and I also have our own website, where Kennedy gets a whole link dedicated to her and how cute and lovable she is! www.andreaandchris.com

BANJO

Kathy, I wanted to give you an update on Banjo. We adopted him last fall. He has been such a fantastic addition to our family. Even after several months of living with us, we feel like each day we see more and more of his true personality. All he wants in the world is to be loved. You could pet him for hours and he would never get bored. My husband, Joe, and I take him on our early morning run. While Joe and I struggle to get out of bed (both physically and emotionally), Banjo's waggy tail and big smile get us out of bed. He loves to run in the morning and is a source of encouragement to both of us! I've attached a picture of Joe and Banjo on top of Mt. Yona in the north Georgia mountains. Banjo LOVES to go hiking. He maybe hikes the mountain 3 times to our 1 time by the time Banjo runs back and forth smelling everything and checking everything out. That may explain the second picture and why he looks so tuckered out. Can you tell we adore him? I don't know what we ever did before he came along. Thank you and all the ERSA volunteers for bringing Banjo into our lives. Sincerely, Mika Kusar

SCRUFFY

2 years ago I got a rescue ESS in AL. I have had cocker spaniels but not an ESS. I do a lot of work with him so I thought I would write a short Scruffy bio and a picture. Maybe it could go on your website. Terri Campbell of AL was my contact and Lisa Cox of AL was his foster mom. Scruffy (Preston's Little Buddy Scruf CD NA NAJ (CGC)) is a very bouncy and comical handful.

Someday he will be a great agility dog. He is presently handicapped by his handler. I have 2 other dogs and it is such a good feeling to have a dog that is always happy to work even when things are not going well. He >follows me every step I make (literally). What can I say, his adoration is addictive.

Hi Kathy,

Just a quick note to let you know how much we all enjoy Jake and to thank you again for coordinating for us.  Here is his Spring Break picture.

PRINCE

I thought you might enjoy this picture of the dogs;  they managed to fit, together, into one normally sized chair.  Bob's hand looks like it is keeping Olive in the chair.  In reality, he is trying to keep her from climbing into the camera...  one of the reasons I have so few good pictures of her.  Anyway, things are going very well !  Albert, formerly known as Prince,  seems very comfortable in his new situation.  Of course,  he goes after all the affection he can wrangle, but we don't mind.  Olive gets tired of that if she feels she is being slighted,  but that's a situation easily avoided.  He has turned into an eager eater,  but who wouldn't with Olive breathing down his neck,  waiting for any crumbs.  He seems pretty relaxed about most things;  he no longer curls up on the bathmat while I'm in the shower.  In fact,  he even lets me leave a room by myself !  For a short time.  But it is progress !  He does get absolutely beside himself when he sees Bob putting on shoes,  as that means outside and tennis balls.  I don't rate the same response because my pitching arm is not nearly as good as Bob's.  All in all,  we are thoroughly smitten with him and cannot imagine being without him.
