Precious

Status: PENDING

Location:

We are need of a foster home for Precious.  She is having her vetting work done by a friend of her rescue angels who saw to it that she be relinquished by her owner who left her in the back yard of the house they moved out of.  She lived there by herself for 3 months.  At just two years old, she's undersocialized but loving now being in a warm place getting regular meals and fresh water all the time.   Please let me know if you can foster her.

Age: Approximately 2 years
Gender: Spayed Female (sometime today this will happen)
Color: Black/White
Weight: Approximately 35 lbs
Variety: Field-Bred

Precious has lived the first 2 years or so of her life in a backyard,
virtually ignored and most likely, abused. The owners moved out of their home and left Precious alone in the backyard to fend for herself. She has lived the last 3 months in her backyard with no view to the outside world and she has been taken care of thanks to the generosity of neighbors.

She is a beautiful, well-mannered girl who loves people above all things and being a hunter second. She loves to go for walks, nose to the ground, pointing all the way, but will gladly pause for people. A little shy, she will cower at first in case you are going to yell or hit her, but once she figures out that you only want to pet her, she will gladly indulge for as long as possible, always pawing for more love.

We don't know if Precious likes to run and play with other dogs. We do know that she is energetic, but does not play rough. She also loves chasing balls. She is content to follow you around or just lay by your side. She is very sweet and wags her long tail all the time! She does have the tendency to counter surf, but a firm "no" and she'll put all four paws back on the ground. She has mastered "sit" and "down", but could use some work with "stay".

Precious would probably do best with another dog to play with and to learn from as soon as we know for sure how she interacts with other dogs. We can guarantee that no matter what, you will fall in love with this highly affectionate creature.

Ringo

2006-339AL

Location: Alabama

Status: PENDING

My name is Ringo. Well, at least that's what they're calling me. I'm estimated to be about 7 years young and very well mannered. I'm fully housebroken, don't chew or counter surf, or any of the other bad stuff people say some dogs do. I also know lots of commands like sit and down..and I walk very nicely on a leash! I'm also told that I'm quite a beautiful tri-color boy that weighs about 50 pounds. I get along very well with other dogs, but I'm not particularly fond of cats. I just don't understand what I'm supposed to do with them..and they don't seem to like that very much!

So how did such a good boy lose his way from home? I was found by animal control in a nice area of Birmingham, AL. Someone must have left the back gate to my yard open one day, and it was such a pretty day, I decided to go for a short walk. I must have become confused and couldn't find my way back home. So I wandered and wandered. They probably were calling for me, but I don't hear very well so I didn't know which way to turn to find my family again.

I wandered a long time. When they took me to the shelter, I was dirty and matted. My hair had grown so long that they decided to call me "Ringo" like the hippy guy from the Beatles. I'm not so sure I like that name. I sure don't look like a hippy anymore!

I'm happy where I am with my foster Mom and her 2 female Springers. I like to play with them and I'll even share my food with them. But, they want their Mom back all to themselves and I know this isn't my forever home. My foster Mom says that I am very cute, especially when I sleep on my back with all four legs in the air. She says that I love to cuddle, give kisses and just to be with her, but my foster sisters would rather I find a home of my own.

I must admit, I miss being someone's very best boy. I'd love to have a family of my very own who'd make sure that I'd never wander off again. I wouldn't have left my old family, but I just couldn't hear them calling for me to come home. Perhaps if you call loudly enough, I'll hear you calling me to come home with you where I can be your very own special boy!

Elliot 2006-492NC

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: Staley, NC

Elliott is a young whipper snapper. He is between 2 and 3 years old and full of himself.

Elliott has completed heartworm treatment and has been cleared by the veterinarian to find a forever home. He is outgoing, loves water, all dogs and animals in general. He has been around cats at the vet clinic and does not appear to be interested at all. He loves to run and play in the yard. He is an explorer. He is a Velcro Springer. In addition to sticking to you he loves to lean and cuddle. One of his favorite times of the day is meal time. He will sit and wait for his food to be put down. Elliott has a routine along with his foster brothers and sisters. They get 1 treat early each morning.and they let me know if I miss it. I think they can all tell time. Elliott would love a home where he gets lots of attention, exercise and a chance to swim once in a while.

Webster

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: Atlanta, GA area

Webster, or little Webb, is a black and white, two year old fellow, and one sweet little guy who's been only been with us for four days.  He's had very limited exposure to being inside so he's being very cautious about exploring any uncharted areas, but he's getting braver!  His favorite spot is a small rug on the kitchen floor where he can see what's going on, but run off into his crate if anything scares him.  He's perfectly happy to curl up in his crate when things start getting a little hectic.  He gets along fine with his three Springer brothers, and keeps trying to get them to play with him, but he's not sure how that all works, so he just follows them around happily wagging his tail.  He loves to be outside, but prefers you to be close by.  He'll run off chasing leaves or critters or other fun stuff, but then check back with you to be sure you're still there, and then off again!  He's also found a favorite spot under a pine tree where he can watch the world go by when he needs a little rest.  It's just wonderful to see him learning and exploring all the fun stuff in his new world.  Everything is an adventure and he's starting to have a spring in his step and a smile on his face.  (He really does smile!)  If you'd like to experience with him the joy of smelling a flower, or chasing a butterfly, or just finding a friend to snuggle up with, don't wait too long to ask about him, because he's ready for his forever home!

Yogi

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: Charlotte, NC

Yogi is an adorable and quite handsome seven year old male Springer that is heartworm free and in prime health.

Seven is truly a wonderful age for a Springer as it is a perfect balance of fun and playfulness tempered with calm, relaxed behavior in the house - so much more dignified than a crazy Springer pup! And, best of all, Yogi is house trained and crate trained.

Yogi's true natural field instincts are apparent in his love of a good romp in the yard, or a fun walk with the family. he LOVES water and thinks he is part fish. He is wonderful with other dogs and is gentle with youngsters. Yogi also likes nothing better than to try and sit on your lap - he doesn't know he's not quite lap dog size. Somewhere along the way, he has learned that if he offers you his paw he will get even more affection, so be prepared for lots of "paw" action. Yogi loves to be groomed and especially loves a good tummy rub. Although somewhat frightened of thunder and lightning, he is a superb watchdog. Yogi is the most wonderful companion and has a lifetime of love to give for the most deserving of families.

McDuff

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: Montgomery, AL

McDuff is a one year old L/W male from a SC shelter.

Mr McDuff is now in a new foster home due to the resident alpha female in his previous foster home not getting along well with him.  He has been here a couple of days and is doing very nicely.  We believe he must have been hungry in his previous life because of how he attacks his food as if he may never get more or another dog may get it from him.  He is being fed separately from the resident dog in his new foster home to see if we can get him to slow down a little.  So far, he has not slowed down and it may take quite some time.  Good news, he is not aggressive about his food, toys or bones.

He gets along well with the resident 11 yr old female Springer and is very submissive to her. She only had to do a low growl to let him know that he was a little to rough with her and he backed off immediately.  He also appears to be scared of the cat.  He doesn't like to go near the cat and backs down quickly if the cat hisses.  He did chase the cat last night but I know that if confronted he would run.

McDuff has started learning a few commands.  They are not completely reliable yet but he is working on sit, down and no.  Good news is, he is starting to get it.  He has only had one accident since moving here and that was on the first day near the door.  His signal must have been missed because we still don't know what that signal might be.  We have just been letting him out to go potty very very often and he expects you to come out into the grass with him.

He is being crated at night and for a couple of hours a day.  He doesn't mind the crate and doesn't fuss at all unless you are eating and then it is just a very short bark as if to say "hey, I'm over here and would really like some".  He is somewhat mouthy and likes to play bite at your hands but we are working on that and he seems to be responding to it.  McDuff would love a family that likes the energy of a young dog and that would like to really bond with him in obedience class.  I think he really wants to please but just doesn't know yet what is expected of him.

Hannah

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: Atlanta, GA

Hannah is an extremely happy dog and loves everyone! She is a great dog to take on walks or to the dog park to play catch. As soon as you open the car door, she jumps in, so she's happy to run errands with you too. She always has people commenting on how cute she is and her shiney coat.

Hannah always has a toy in her mouth and will never leave your side (or your lap) when you are at home. The only time I've heard her bark is when she is trying to tell me to feed her. She gets along with other dogs, but prefers her humans. She is completely housetrained and crate trained. Hannah has been living in a one-bedroom condo, so she can handle small spaces as long as she gets her long walks. She is truly a wonderful dog and will love anyone who will give her attention.

Carly

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: LA but accessible to Atlanta.

Carly ~ 3-4 years old - 46 lbs

Beautiful sweet Carly, a Katrina survivor, will never be lost again. With her new chip implanted she will always find her way home, and now that all her vet shots are up-to-date and her silky coat is groomed to show off her statuesque physic, she is, indeed, a beauty to behold. She wins the hearts of all (children, adults & companion canines), and Carly is eager to find her forever home. Her personality is equally charming as she's loves to please those whom she loves, but she also welcomes new people into her life with an open mind and heart. Be not mistaken, she will alert you to strangers or strange sounds, but she quickly takes your lead when you tell all is well, and it is now time to be quiet. Carly's house and leash manners include commands such as sit, lay down, stay, be nice (when taking treats), go pee, go poop, let's go home, and, of course, NO - when needed. Carly's ideal home would include plenty of fenced room to run with perhaps a small plastic pool to cool her high-energy runs and playtime. She travels well, and she likes her crate, even though it's unnecessary for her quiet time. She has that Springer nose and a hunting instinct that can come to full alert in a split second, and she, therefore, could benefit from a little more obedience training to help her parents manage that energy to the benefit of all. Carly would do well with a brother or sister, and she's very tolerant with puppies that like to tousle and chew on her ears. What's not to love about Carly - she deserves the best.

Leo 2006-491NC

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: NC

My name is Leo the love bug. My foster mom calls me "sweetness" I am a small boy at only 40 lbs. I am 5 years old, neutered, up to date on all my shots and preventatives. What would I call the perfect home? A forever home that will let me be a lap dog and stay real close in case you decide to give a hug or belly rub. I enjoy time with other dogs. They are not a necessity but it might be nice. I am an easy going guy.  Cats are not my favorite but I have learned to tolerate them if they keep their distance. I like to spend time in the yard playing and resting in the sun and under trees. There are several Springers here at my foster home and they really like me. My foster family is also fostering a hound dog and he is a lot of fun. We play together a lot. I look forward to meal time. It is nice to have good food all the time. I enjoy riding in the car. If you think your home has room for a great guy like me please fill out an application and ask about Leo the Love Bug!!

Bonnie 2006-488NC

Status: Pending Adoption

Location: NC

My name is Bonnie, and I'm one of six Springers found living under an abandoned house. Luckily for us, ESRA came along and saved us! My foster mom thinks my previous owner probably kept me in a kennel and used me for breeding. I'm only about two years old now, so I was just a puppy myself when I had my litters! I'm a tiny little thing and only weigh about 34 pounds, but I have beautiful liver and white fur with classic Springer markings. Since I didn't have much exposure to people in my other life, I'm a little timid. My foster mom thinks I would do best in a home with no small children as loud noises and fast moments tend to scare me.  I think I would be happiest living with a single woman, an older couple without children or a senior citizen who wants a loving companion.  I like dogs my own size or smaller, but no BIG DOGS please!

Cats are ok, too. I'm a laid back girl and will follow you around just to be where you are. I also walk well on a leash and like to ride in the car. When I first got to my foster home, I was so scared that my foster mom had to bribe me with treats to get me to come out of my crate - now that I'm braver, I go in and out of my crate without any problem at all. I do like to sleep and eat in my crate, but if it would make you happy, I'd be glad to share your bed with you!

My foster mom is working with me now on house training and learning some basic commands -- no one ever taught me these things before. I only have one request - because I'm still shy, I need you to let me get to know you at my own pace. Remember, my experience is limited, and I have to feel like I can trust you before I start giving you sweet kisses and loving on you like I do with my foster mom. If you think you have the patience to let me learn to love and trust you, I will reward you with unconditional love and be your constant companion. Thanks for taking the time to read about me.

Boo Boo

Status ADOPTED

Location: Coming soon

Boo Boo is a two year male Springer and still quite full of young Springer mischief. He is like a child in a candy shop when out on a walk, not knowing where to run to first and what to sniff when. However, he does follow instructions really well, and obedience training would be the perfect way for his new family to get to know him better. Already Boo Boo will come on command and sit and wait.. albeit for a short time as he gets ready for his next sniffing expedition. And, as long as he is given enough exercise, he will save his most active curiosity for the outside. When adequately exercised, his favorite indoor activity is to curl up on his bean-bag when his foster family is around the house - very cute. But do remember, Boo Boo is still very much a typical Springer puppy: full of energy, enjoying all sorts of games in the yard including hiding the water bowl. Because of his size and energy, we do recommend a home without very small children. A canine sibling for a playmate would be ideal, but is not a requirement. All around, Boo Boo is incredibly sweet-natured and loyal and will make an excellent companion for an active family.

Gidget

2006-338SC

Location: South Carolina

Status:PENDING ADOPTION

UPDATE 8-23-06:

If you're considering me for adoption, you need to know... I'm good for car-rides! I'm not at all ready for leash-free activity!  I like to chase, chase, chase...and, my "recall" command/whistle is just beginning in the works.  Basically, I'm a fieldie-girlie and I'm bird-crazy and crazy about anything that moves fast!  The worst is I chase cars, inside from the windows and outside!  My safety depends on your responsibility and continued training to overcome this concern!  My foster-Mom will teach you many tactics, but your time to consistently safe-guard me AND train me are key! I know and obey "off", "sit", "stay"(within the house).  I'm a sensitive girl and a bit timid; I will listen to your words, as I want to please you and be rewarded with your praise and attention! My consistent house-training needs regimine and monitoring; your patience and persistence is key to my success. Foster-Mom says I'm "lovely", "a-lovey", and a "beautiful girl inside and out".

" Gidget " Nickname: Gidg-E-Girl

1 Year, Female-Spayed, Black & White (field), ~40lbs, healthy and UTD

Favorite Toy: Itsy-bitsy, tiny-winy, tiny-polka-dotted-bikini --- rubber chicken! "Chicken!"

She's a soft-ee and needs encouragement and confidence building. This is best achieved through regular training activities. She'd be a good agility dog for those enticed by exercise activities and possibly competing. A "birdie" at heart, this field bred girl is ready to go (all the time, well most the time!). She does settle to sweet special time and eye-contact adoring, gentle ear and neck rubs, with soft voice. Playing time (and bird-chasing time) can be quite wild, a bit yippie. Little human companions are not recommended, but 7-8 and up would be active playmate human companions. Other doggies are great as she's submissive and peace-keeping. Kitties are an unknown. She's doing great with house-training and has graduated to the laundry room while the people are away (without accident). When expanding her area and timeline, she's had varied success. She's still interested in cars (as they move fast) and needs continued work for recall and stop/halt commands which are vital to her safety).

She needs patience, time and understanding; but, she's sure to be a dream addition to her "fur"ever family!

Houston 2006-630NC

Status: Adopted by his foster family

Location: Raleigh, NC

Houston was rescued by a good samaratin who saw Houston tied to a tree and in nasty condition.  He approached the owners and asked if he could take the dog and they were happy to give him up.  Five years ago he was purchased for their 10 year old son who is no longer interested in him and neither was anyone else in the family so he was tied to a tree in the yard where he was ignored and neglected. The good samaratin took Houston to the groomers to remove all the matting and dreadlocks. He looks like a new dog!  Houston was neutered yesterday and everyone in the vets office said he was a great boy through it all.  He was good with all the staff and the other dogs.  He hopped right into the back of the car and settled down in the crate for the trip to his new foster family.  He is now settling in Raleigh.

Bella

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location:

Bella is a sweet liver and white 4 1/2 month old pure puppy.  She is just into foster care and has already made quite an impression on her foster mom.  She is already working towards being house trained and has only had one accident so far which should be expected coming to a new home.

Bella is doing fine in a crate with only a few minutes of fussing but then settles in nicely.  She is only being crated about 3 hrs during the day and at night.  She has not spent a full night yet so stay tuned on that progress.  She is getting along great with the resident 11 yr old "Springer Princess" and doesn't even mind being reprimanded by her when enough play is enough. The resident dog is very gentle and patient so far and may teach her some doggie etiquette.  Bella has tried to chase the cat but when the cat was placed in front of her and hissed and swatted Bella backed down quickly.  This little puppy loves to play and chew on bones and rope toys.  She will however play and splash all of the water out of her dish.  It is very cute but does require lots of towels.  She went on a walk with the resident Springer this evening and did really good for a puppy.  She pulled some but nothing near what I have experienced with other dogs.  She is a quick learner and will already sit for a treat.  She has tried to lounge on the sofa but we are discouraging that.

Bella is up to date on her vaccinations and on heartworm preventative.  She is scheduled for her spay this Thursday.   She will be a great dog for someone looking for the playfulness and energy of a young puppy who is sweet as pie.

Sam II

Status: Going right to potential adoptive home

Location: NC

Sam is at least 10 years old. He is an outgoing senior who gets along with other dogs and loves people. He has a mild thyroid condition that is controlled with an inexpensive daily medication. He enjoys leading a mellow lifestyle and also enjoys nice walks and play time. He is a bright boy and is looking for a new forever home.

Katie Mae

Status: PENDING

Location: Staley, NC

"Hi, I am Katie May. They call me Kate where I am staying right now. I am a 6 year old field bred Springer. I am definitely a Springer because I love to go go go! I am full of energy, personality and kisses. I love all people, including children that are big enough to play with me. I met 3 kids yesterday ranging in age from 8-13. The 8 year old boy lives with a Springer so he knows what to expect. The other 2 kids were a bit surprised at my energy level. I love to swim. Every chance I get I am in the doggie pool. If there is a ball anywhere in my sight I want to play with it. If you throw it I will retrieve it and wait for another throw. I do enjoy my down time. I settle nicely and relax for belly rubs, however, if left out on my own without enough exercise I'll just entertain myself with a bit of digging so be sure to count on lots of ball playing and indoor snuggling. I love a chance to get real close to you. I get along with all dogs and cats do not phase me in the least. I enjoy my space and do well with a crate. I prefer to have the door left open. I am housebroken and enjoy life to the fullest. "

Katie is a love of a Springer. Kay Kay as we call her is 6 years old, spayed UTD on vaccines and HW negative. She is a compact liver and white field Springer. She could use to drop a couple of pounds. She was in the shelter for almost 4 weeks, so she didn't get a lot of exercise. She is very ball driven. She will fetch for hours on end. She especially loves water. She swims everyday in the doggie pool. She loves all people, including children that are old enough to keep up with her energy. She ignores most cats and gets along with every dog she has met. Katie will enjoy a home with another dog. She is attentive, outgoing, energetic and extremely loving. Next to swimming, chasing the ball and mealtime she loves belly rubs. She will jump in you lap and give you lots of Springer kisses. Katie is housetrained, prefers not to be crated and is eagerly awaiting a forever home.

Rabbit

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: AL

Rabitt is a little female springer.  She is not more than 8 or 9 mos. old.  Not full grown by any means.  About a foot and half tall and weighs in at 22 lbs now.  She's been getting regular meals for a few months now.  She has been injured (possibly a car or recreational vehicle).  She keeps both hind legs together and kind of hops like a bunny to get around.  In spite of this, she has a loving personality and gets happy and excited at the thought of pets.  She is gorgeous in her appearance - freckling that goes right up the center of her nose.  She has a hernia and will need to be spayed.  Her coat looks short, but beautiful and silky - very soft.  She is the more cautious of the two when it comes to people, but still friendly.  Gets along well with all the other animals in the hospital.  She will be easy to find a home for when she is better.  Her looks and personality make her irresistable.

She may be staying with her foster family!!!

Peter

Status: in a foster-to-adopt home!

Location: Auburn, AL, but transport available throughout the MidSouth

Young Peter was a hard luck case that is getting better every day.  Peter was found along with his little side-kick, Rabbit, by a kind veterinary office in Alabama.  We believe Peter is a young 3-4 years old.  He's a handsome, solid boy with a full tail.  He did have a benign lump on his hip which has now been completely removed and is healing nicely, and he's already been neutered.  He is also a low Heartworm positive, so he will be going through treatment for the next several weeks.  We estimate him to be available for adoption around October.  In the meantime, Peter is really enjoying life in the company of humans, cats, as well as other dogs.  While he does get along with most dogs, he can take a while to adjust to a few dogs.  Peter was used to being Rabbit's protector, so he's used to being the "top dog" in a group.  Peter's coat and skin was in rough condition, but we are giving him high quality food, medicated shampoo, and fatty acid supplements so it should return to a lovely, shiny state soon - he just needed a little TLC.  Peter is also very food motivated so he should be easy and fun to train.  He already appears to be housetrained.  Peter loves nothing more than to be a sweet lover-boy to the people around him.  Now, Peter just needs a loving family to help him build up his confidence so he can continue to blossom into the happy-go-lucky boy he's meant to be!  Peter is in Auburn in temporary foster care until a foster home can be found that can take him through HW treatment.

I would add that he loves affection and will sit close to get it.  He was also very good for his grooming done by our volunteers.

Phyllis Chan has gotten to know Peter a bit while he stayed in Opelika at the vet for his neuter and mass removal surgery.  The mass was benign and was completely removed.  His neuter site is healing well.  Peter came in with Lily.  It appears that he is possibly housetrained as he marks outside, but has not once tried to lift his leg in the house.  We are not sure how Peter will do with other dogs when given free access, but he met lots of dogs at Woofstock with no problems.  On occasion he has growled when other dogs approach, but in meeting them he has been fine.  He sleeps in his crate and is excellent in it.  Peter is about 50 pounds, about 3 years old and has a full tail.  Since he's so good in his crate he should be an easy foster through HW treatment.  Please let me know if you can foster him.

Curly Sue 2006-486NC

Status: WENT TO FOSTER CARE WHERE SHE MIGHT STAY FOR ADOPTION IF THE FIT IS RIGHT!

Location: NC

Curly Sue is a sweet girl who can be a bit bossy to her other roommates. She has a nice coat and interesting markings. She has curly feathering on her hind quarters. She is heartworm positive but that does not slow her down.

She was spayed on Tuesday. She was coming into season and the boys were going wild and she was not happy with them. Even though they were separated they knew she was coming in and let her know it with their big mouths. She is very happy now and quite the wiggle butt. She weighs 34 lbs and has a fresh grooming. She is glad to be rid of her old dry coat.

Annie 2006-490NC

Status: Coming Soon

Location: TN

Annie is about 5 years old and is now settling into her foster home in Chattanooga, TN.  She is a sweet, quiet, petite girl and is loving getting loads of cuddles and belly rubs.  If Annie plays her cards right she might stay where she is forever.

Chica 2006-659SC

Status: in foster-to-adopt home!

Location: Upstate SC

Here's Chica's "after" pic!  She's a happy girl...wanting all the attention...in her new Chiquita-collar her foster-mommie made for her!  She's says..."Check me out!...  I'm wearing high-fashion, Chica-style!  I'm going girlies...(off to where? for HW+ treatment and temporary care).

Chica" or Girly 2Yrs, Spayed Female, Black & White, Field-Bred, ~35lbs, Up-to-date on all Vacs and Rabies...but, Heartworm + (needs treatment) Chica says, look at me, look at me!  (here's a preview since I'll need treatment before adoption)

She's a submissive squirt (pee-pee-piddler to people when 1st greeting); so, she needs some reassurance and confidence building.  She's just a little nervous with all that's happened to her lately!  She's a spat of a nuisence to the Springer squadron (2females&1male); a jealous little one who wants all the attention after some obvious neglect!  She's very responsive and a sweetie-girlie.  She wants to please!  She licks feet, jumps to fingertips waving in step, and gets undertoe!  Generally, she makes herself known whenever opportunity arises.  She loves to chin rubs and is good for handling and bathtime.  She'll cuddle and kiss if you let it.  She a petite 1/2pint-Chica, but full-grown.  Her little personality compensates for the physical; she's quite a character!  Unknown with cats. Likes dogs. Loves people!

She loves her name - Chica, "chiquita banana"!  you gotta say it like this..."chiquita baaanaaannnaaa".  She doesn't know the television, especially the big-screen.  It's a little scary and needs a barking at, just to check it out.  She's pushing around the Springer Squadron here to test the line-up and determine her rank.  She's got the "little-one complex" and tries to bugger her way in any way possible.  So, she may not be too good for the little-people population of potential adopters.

Shelby

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: North Carolina

Hi, I am Shelby. You may see me listed as Belle, but since coming into foster care my name has changed. I am actually Princess Shelby. I am only 18 months old and have already been a mother. My son was rescued with me and has been adopted. I can now be a young girl again and do what every young petite Springer Spaniel does, I prance, pose and priss around like a little princess. Please don't let that fool you. I can run with the big boys and girls just as well as anyone can. I thoroughly enjoy being in the yard with my foster sisters and brothers. My favorite past time is playing smack down with Fred the resident Brittany. He is about my size even though he thinks he is bigger. Since coming from a shelter just recently I have learned that life can be very nice.

I have a few requests, yes I know I am lucky to be an ESRA Springer, but since I know life can be so good please bear with me and maybe you can fulfill my dreams. I would love a forever home with playmates, a doggie door and a nice fenced in backyard where I can ran and play a lot all day long. I love grown up people that will let me lay my head in their lap and sleep by their bed. I just want to make everyone happy. I am crate trained and house trained. I enjoy a good meal, but prefer not to share. I really enjoy sleeping outside my crate and have never asked to get on the human bed. I can be a bit of a demanding girl but I have learned I am not the alpha dog. I can use some leash training and we are working on that. I love car rides and quiet nap time.

UPDATE July 5th:

Shelby is a very outgoing young girl. She has so much energy that she flies off the deck instead of walking. She has been in foster care for about 7 weeks and her true personality has blossomed. Shelby would love to be the Alpha dog, but knows where she stands in her foster pack. She is loving and sweet and will seek one on one time with her humans. She especially loves the bathroom. She enjoys sleeping next to the tub and waiting for you while you take a bath or shower.

She definitely requires another dog to be happy. She prefers boys because she can be a rough and tumble girl. She plays hard and because of this will do best in a home with older dog savvy children. She settles well when she is tired, but prefers not to be awakened by another dog. She startles easily. Shelby needs a home with a structured routine. In her foster home her mom is up early and leaves for the office at 6:30 AM. All of the dogs know they have a special spot where they receive their morning treat. They must respect each other or they do not receive a treat.  The same goes for feeding time. Each dog has their spot. This is especially helpful with Shelby . She is learning she does not have to guard her food. She has no problem with a human putting their hand in her mouth or removing her food. She is learning the other dogs have their own food and hers is safe.

Shelby is completely house trained, crate trained but prefers not to be crated, uses a doggie door because she loves to spend much of her day in the fenced in yard playing with her foster brothers and sisters. A fenced yard is a necessity. Shelby loves pointing and chasing birds as well as staying on squirrel patrol. She has never been on the furniture and on the bed once. She sleeps next to our bed at night. Shelby is a perfect size and will make a great addition to any home.

Jeff

2006-402GA

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location: Haddock, GA

Jeff is a liver and white boy, about 55 lbs, about 2 years old.

Mr. Jeff is a loving young fellow looking for his forever family. Jeff ohhhs over belly-scritches and ahhhhs over a good back rub.  Crate trained and smart as they come Mr. Jeff would excel at clicker training and with a bit more maturity make ideal as a therapy dog. Jeff is fine with  dogs but thinks it is fun to sometimes chase the cat. In his foster placement Jeff is learning table manors and keeping all four on the floor when saying hello. Jeffie is looking for a home with a person who can take him for long walks, let him be a foot warmer at night and share all that is good about life.

Barney

2006-403GA

Status: PENDING ADOPTION

Location:

Barney and Randy were found as a strays in Douglasville.  A resident there called animal control and ESRA.  After their hold date was up at the shelter, the animal control officers asked us to take them into our program.  They are both sweet boys, however, they've been on their own for sometime.  The smaller boy has some puncture wounds from either being attacked or barbed wire.  Both are on antibiotics for their skin.  Both boys need to be neutered yet, but thankfully both are Heartworm negative!  Both of these boys were excellent for their exams.  the little one even had to have his ears shaved by the doc and stood perfectly still for it.    If you are interested in Fostering to Adopt one of these boys please contact us asap.  They are boarding as we are full and with limited financial resources this puts a strain on our ability to rescue more dogs.   They will be adopted separately as we feel it is in their best interests.   Pictures coming soon!

Tulip/Jeri

Status: coming soon (she recently came into heat and needs to be spayed!)

Location: Alabama

Update on Tulip.  This is not the dog I brought home two and a half weeks ago.  She was officially discharged from vet care yesterday.  Her Sarcoptic Mange is gone and peach fuzz is clearly evident.  Her Yeast Infection is gone and she no longer smells or feels greasy.  Her worms are gone.  We now have a puppy on our hands!

She has a delightful personality, but many habits that come with being a stray.  She is doing extremely well with her potty training - no accidents for the past 2 weeks, and she now goes to the door and sits until you notice her.  When she realizes you are noticing, she will get up and go to her leash which I have hanging on the door knob.

She loves people affection, but in her excitement she playfully takes your hand in her mouth. Like so many puppies, she is a chewer.  We have purchased numerous chew toys which she loves, however, she also still loves a good piece of sofa or carpet or quilt or shoes, etc.

She has tremendous energy and prefers to be outside all the time. She likes all other dogs - runs right up to them, tail wagging and wanting to play.  She has never met a dog she didn't like.  She likes other animals as well.  She has made friends with the resident pet pig, Elvis, at my vets office. Bottom line - she is now healthy, but still needs to put on about 10 lbs.

She will be needing a home where she will have access to the outside.  She will require a tall fence.  I saw her jump a 4 foot fence like it was nothing.  She would love a home with young, energetic, active people-- but probably not young children-- and other dogs that want to play.  This family needs to understand, she is a puppy full of puppy behaviors, and will require training to become a house pet.  She is loaded with potential.  She is happy and wants to please, but has never been taught any manners.  She is also beautiful now that we can see a healthier Tulip.

Jackson
2006-072GA

Status:PENDING ADOPTION

Location: Opelike, AL

Jackson is a liver and white approximately one year old springer. He was rescued from a shelter in GA after being there a week and not reclaimed by his owners. He was taken directly to a vet's office for his vet work up and boarding until a foster home can be found for him. Jackson rode nicely in the car, but he did have to be lifted in as he was a bit nervous. Jackson has a few mats and needs to gain about 5 pounds to be at his ideal weight which is probably somewhere around 50 pounds. Jackson pulls a little on the leash, but not terribly. Jackson was fine being handled all over and having his teeth and ears checked. We suspect he has a yeast infection in his ears which will be treated and he will be neutered pending the results of his HW test. He met another dog and saw a few kittens in the vet's office and was very polite. We will learn more about his likes and dislikes when he gets into foster care. If you are interested in Fostering or Adopting Jackson please out your application in asap so we can get him out of boarding and on his way to a happy ending!

Jackson has tested positive for HW and needs a foster home that can take him through treatment or an adoptive home that can guide him through it while rescue covers the health care.

Charlie

Status: in foster care --now pending adoption with his foster mom!

Location: Georgia

2006-297SC

He's a sweet, 2 yr old bouncy boy who is too much for his family and needs someone who knows the exercise needs of Springers!

Just look at that smile!

UPDATE! Charlie is doing great. He is very good in the house. He has done fine with our cat (Garbow). If you didn't already know we have 50 acres and Charlie has been doing very good off leash. He is much more well mannered (not that he isn't) when he has been able to run and get out some energy. He is good with other dogs and very timid when he first meets them. He has not shown any aggression at all. He also LOVES water. We have a kiddy pool for all the dogs and he spends more time in it than any of the others (including Duke and our golden retriever, Lizzy). He also chases the water coming out of the hose.

Fletcher
2005-675GA

Status:Pending Adoption

Location: Canton, GA

Fletcher came from a high kill shelter in Macon, GA. He's a beautiful, black and white Bench Bred boy estimated to be about a year old. A wonderful shelter volunteer pulled him for us and took him to the Vet where he had all of his shots. He'll return to the Vet next week to be Heartworm tested and neutered.

Fletcher has a Guardian Angel in Washington, DC who saw him on Petfinder and offered to pay for his boarding until we find a foster home for him. But, I know Fletcher would rather be in a home of his own where he can feel safe and secure.
Here's what the shelter volunteer said about him: "Fletcher is such a sweetheart.  He was a little jumpy (not snappy) when the vet gave him the shot.  I've noticed several of my rescues don't particularly like this vet...but the girls in the office were all loving on him...and he was good around other dogs and cats that were around the office too.  He freely gives kisses and wants to lie in your lap whenever possible.  His ears are a matted mess...must weigh around 5 lbs. a piece they are such a tangled mess."

He is boarding with a male beagle right now and is doing fine. The vet guessed him to be 1 to 1.5 years old...and he weighed 28 lbs.

11.9.2005

Fletcher started Heartworm treatment last week and this weekend was really a rough one.  Fletcher got very sick from the treatment and had to make a couple trips to the vet for fluids, antibiotics and steroids.  We're happy to report that he is doing really well.  In fact, his foster dad said Fletcher started barking in his crate around 4 am and he went down to let him out and Fletch walked right outside went potty and went right back inside and back in his crate to go back to sleep.  This is a big improvement as over the weekend he became very lethargic and dehydrated.  Today he was much more alert and eating and drinking well!

Fletcher has proven himself to be submissive to most dogs (i.e. he will stick up for himself with a dog that gets to be to overwhelming with him) and all people, but he does not do well with cats.  He's a true velcro dog and just wants to be by your side to soak up all the loving he can.  Fletcher is a petite springer weighing in the mid 30's.  Fletcher will go back in to the vet for his second round of HW treatment in about weeks.  He will be ready for his adoptive home after he completes that round.

Please keep thinking good thoughts for Fletcher for continued improvement so that he continues to enjoy his new found life where he is no longer matted and will receive appropriate preventative care so he never has to go through HW treatment again!

Molly

Status: STAYING WITH FOSTER MOM

Location: Atlanta, GA

Hi! My name is Molly. If you look up the meaning of my name, it means “bitter one”, but I can tell you right now there is nothing bitter about me. Even though this is my second time around being rescued, I know now it’s all for the best. I’m with my new four-legged brothers and sister. I just walked in and immediately became part of the family. I enjoy games of tag in the backyard, playing with toys (especially the one’s with ropes attached), rolling in the grass, taking naps on lazy afternoons, getting belly rubs, walks at night, my bedtime snack, being touched, snugglingmolly_smiling_1_1.jpg (49190 bytes), kissing… Oh who am I kidding? I like everything. I do have a little habit that my mom thinks is cute. If she’s not paying me enough attention, I just walk up behind her and stand or sit in between her legs. That always guarantees me a hug. Pretty smart, huh? I did get a clean bill of health from my vet. I’ve had my hair and nails done. I also went to work with mommy one day. I was very polite and sat and shook hands with everyone she introduced me. I like riding in the car and I walk very well on a leash. I get along well with other dogs and kids. I was with three four-legged and two two-legged siblings at my last home. Oh well, enough of me going on about myself. Even though I could go on and on about how great I am. Even though I’m 8, I don’t feel like a senior. I’ve got a lot of great years left in me and I would like to spend them with you. So what are you waiting for, fill out that adoption application and make both our lives complete. Hugs and kisses… Molly

Update: 6/9/05: I feel pretty, oh so pretty. I feel pretty and witty and wise, and I pity any doggy who isn’t me tonight. What can I say? That’s how I feel about myself and it’s true. I’m all of those things and more. I love being the center of attention. I get along great with my four-legged brothers and sister, kids, and other dogs. I am a little too curious about cats though. I just don’t understand what all the hissing and spitting is about when I try to play with them. I’m looking for a forever home where I can play a good game of you throw the ball, I get it, and then you chase me to get it back. I just love that game. I like playing with toys (especially the ones with ropes attached), rolling in the grass, taking naps on lazy afternoons, getting belly rubs, walks at night, my bedtime snack, being touched, snuggling, and kissing. I just love life. I’ve got a clean bill of health from that nice guy my foster mom called the vet. She takes me to get my hair and nails done. I like riding in the car and I walk very well on a leash. I don’t get on the furniture. Gosh, after reading this I sound perfect, don’t’ I? Oh well, I don’t feel like a senior. I’ve got a lot of great years left in me and I would like to spend them with you. So what are you waiting for, fill out that adoption application and make both our lives complete. Hugs and kisses… Molly
